Linzi West works in her studio adjoining the shop surrounded by an array of different projects, including icons, portraits, original paintings, children’s books, greeting cards and illustrated furniture. As well as work by local artists, potters and jewellery makers the Mermaid sells Linzi’s varied work.

The ethos of the Mermaid is passionately adhered to: “I was determined from the outset that we would sell art and crafts sourced through a love of the arts, rather than commercial value, using natural and often recycled materials, inspired by our proximity to the sea and the historic centre of Lyme”.

Like a ship gathering treasure on its voyage the Mermaid Shop is constantly changing and gathering momentum. Who knows where its journey will lead next?
